SASKATOON— Merv Easton’s morning routine received an instant jolt on April 2 – and it wasn't from the caffeine. Easton checked his Western 649 ticket for the April 1 draw and discovered he won $2 million.
“On Sunday mornings I like to get up, make myself coffee and check my lottery tickets,” he said while claiming his ticket.
“I checked this ticket and had to do a couple double-takes,” he laughed. “Then, I got up, put on some loud music and did a little dance around the living room!”
The Pike Lake winner said he has two main plans for his windfall.
“I’m going to help my family,” he said. “Especially my kids.”
“After that, I would like to see Ireland,” he continued. “I’ve always wanted to go and now I have no reason not to see it!"
Easton said it took a while for the reality of his win to sink in and now that it has, he can finally say the words he has dreamed of saying: “I’m a millionaire… twice!”
“I always hoped I would win the lottery,” he said. “The reality is so much better than I could have imagined. I feel numb.”
Merv purchased his winning Western 649 ticket at the Vanscoy Esso located at 301 Railway Ave.
