On Feb. 7, 2020, Cindy MacKay was transported to the hospital. She was in medical distress and later died in hospital on Feb. 12, 2020. While she was still in hospital, healthcare professionals raised concerns to the detachment, which prompted an investigation.
As a result of the complex investigation, conducted by the RCMP Major Crime Unit North and the RCMP Historical Case Unit North, the Battlefords RCMP Detachment, the Battlefords RCMP General Investigation Section, and RCMP Forensic Identification Section, on March 18, 2021, an arrest was made in relation to the death of Cindy MacKay of Meota, SK.
Michael MacKay (DOB:1982-05-20) is charged with the following:
1 count, first degree murder, Section 235 (1), Criminal Code
The victim and the accused were married. Michael MacKay was arrested without incident on Thursday, March 18, 2021 in the community of Warman, SK. His first court appearance is set for Friday March 19, 2021 in the North Battleford Provincial Court via telephone.
