PREECEVILLE - The community of Preeceville is scheduled to kick off a week-long set of activities and events that were based on the celebration of Old Home Week from July 8 to July 12.

"The goal of the annual celebration is to provide an opportunity for former residents and guests to check out what's new in town," stated a release from the Town of Preeceville.

Old Home Week is a practice that originated in the New England region of the United States, similar to a holiday or festival. In its beginning, in the 19th - 20th century, it involved a municipal effort to invite former residents of a village, town, or city - usually individuals who grew up in the municipality as children and moved elsewhere in adulthood - to visit the Old Home, the parental household and home town.

The idea is to have events around one week each summer so former residents and guests can be as busy as they please while checking out what's new in town,

The events are scheduled to kick off on July 9 when the Preeceville Personal Care Home will feature a perogie and sausage lunch, followed on the next day by the Preeceville Club 60 hot dog and coffee afternoon.

The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum will be hosting visitors with its outdoor clay oven-baked bread, jam and chili day on July 11. Crossroads Credit Union staff members will be in the Centennial Park serving ice cream. The event is by silver collection and the proceeds will be donated to Filling The Gap food bank.

Friday will feature a perogies and sausage lunch sponsored by the CWL and also on Friday the Main Street Market will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the highway.

The activities will conclude with the Preeceville Lions Western Weekend.
