Sturgis Gymkhana excitement involves many participants

Horse enthusiasts take to the field to showcase their skills and talents on their horses at the Sturgis Gymhkana events.

Laura Lindholm of Lintlaw was the youngest rider at the Sturgis Sports Day Etomamie Valley Riders Club gymkhana on June 22 and 23. She was only two years-old and was led by her sister Mercedes Lindholm.

STURGIS - The Etoimamie Valley Riders Club hosted a gymkhana set of events during the Sturgis Sports Day on June 22 and 23. Riders participated in four categories; wee pee, pee wee, junior and senior in three events; barrels, poles and games.

Amanda Kowalchuk was the announcer for both days and ground helper was John Beatty aided by club members and Rusty Spurs 4-H Light Horse Club helpers. Youngest riders who were assisted were  two-year-old Laura Lindholm of Lintlaw and Hayze Kilborn of Naicam. The youngest unassisted rider was five-year-old Stetson Checkowy of Hyas.

In the weepee barrel event, on Saturday, Autumn Salmond of Invermay placed first, Hayze Kilborn was second and Stetson Checkowy placed third. On Sunday, Aspen Salmond of Invermay placed first followed by Autumn Salmond and Stetson Checkowy. Autumn Salmond was the two-day aggregate winner.

In the wee pee poles, on Saturday, Aspen Salmond was first followed by Autumn Salmond and Stetson Checkowy. On Sunday, Aspen Salmond placed first, Hayze Kilborn, second and Stetson Checkowy was third. Aspen Salmond was the two-day aggregate winner.

In the wee pee games, Saturday, Autumn Salmond placed first, Hayze Kilborn, second and Autumn Salmond third. On Sunday, Aspen Salmond place first, Stetson Checkowy, second and Autumn Salmond, third.  The two-day aggregate winner was Aspen Salmond. Other riders were Laura Lindholm, and Macy Young of Weekes.

In the peewee barrels on Saturday, Kia Third of Saltcoats was first, Reed Galloway of Swan River was second and Tyler Griffith of Norquay, third. On Sunday, Mercedes Lindholm of Lintlaw was first, Jade Beatty of Sturgis, second and Kia Third placed third. Kia Third was the two-day aggregate winner.

In pee wee poles, Saturday, Tyler Griffith placed first, Mercedes Lindholm was second and Reed Galloway finished third. On Sunday, Reed Galloway was first, Kia Third was second and Arianna Nelson of Preeceville, third. The two-day aggregate winner was Reed Galloway.

In the pee wee games, Saturday, Mercedes Lindholm placed first, followed by Tyler Griffith in second and Kia Third in third place. On Sunday, Matt Palaniuk was first, Reed Galloway finished second and Kia Third was third. The two-day aggregate winner was Reed Galloway.

Other participants were: Kade Third of Saltcoats, Jaxon Neilson of Preeceville, Karlee Boychuk of Norquay, Emma Young of Weekes and Matty Palaniuk of Sturgis.

In the junior barrels, on Saturday, Charlie Griffith of Norquay placed first, Shyann Lindholm of Lintlaw, second and Zoe Stachura of Yorkton finished third. On Sunday, Zoe Stachura, first, Hazy Sharpe of Yorkton, second and Jesse Beatty of Sturgis was third. The two-day aggregate winner was Hazy Sharpe.

In junior poles, Saturday, Hazy Sharpe was first, Charlie Griffith, second and Zoe Stachura was third. On Sunday, Hazy Sharpe finished first, Jesse Betty, second and Charlie Griffith won third place. The two-day aggregate winner was Hazy Sharpe.

In junior games, Saturday, Hazy Sharpe placed first, Zoe Stachura, second and Charlie Griffith, third. On Sunday, Charlie Griffith placed first, Savannah Neilson of Preeceville, second and Tristen Palaniuk of Sturgis, third. The two-day aggregate winner was Charlie Griffith.

Other participates were: Alex Neilson of Preeceville, Jesse Beatty of Sturgis, Madison Auchstaetter of Pelly, Mia Butterfield of Norquay, Avery Severson of Norquay, Brea Babiarz of Sturgis, Jake Palaniuk of Sturgis, and Shyann Lindholm of Lintlaw.

In the senior barrels, on Saturday and Sunday, Jenna Salmond of Weekes placed first, Ronnie Lindholm of Lintlaw, second and Ronda Palaniuk of Sturgis was third. The two-day aggregate winner was Jenna Salmond.

In the senior poles, on Saturday, Twyla Salmond of Porcupine Plain placed first, Ronda Palaniuk, second and Jenna Salmond of Invermay was third. On Sunday, Twyla Salmond placed first, Jenna Salmond was second and Ronda Palaniuk was third. The two-day aggregate winner was Jenna Salmond.

In the senior games, on Saturday, Twyla Salmond placed first, Ronnie Lindholm, second and Ronda Palaniuk, third. On Sunday, Ronda Palaniuk won first place followed by Ronnie Lindholm, second and Jenna Salmond, third.  The two-day aggregate winner was Ronda Palaniuk.

Other riders were: Jenna Hutchings of Saltcoats, Yvonne Young of Weekes, and Brittany Prodael of St. Gregor.
