Sturgis Mini-marathon races for Telemiracle

The Sturgis Kinsmen 24th annual marathon that was a combined effort of the Sturgis Composite High School students, staff and Kinsmen members, braved the cold as they walked and ran back to Sturgis from Canora on March 2.

            "The Town of Canora was canvassed prior to the marathon and over $3.000 was donated," said Brad Cameron, principal.

            Participants who braved the cold to run from Canora to Sturgis raising funds along the way were Rhianna Olson, Shanae Olson, Jalen Bayer, Zane Bayer, Peyton Secundiak, Carter Masley and Sierra Meroniuk.

             Student representative council members were Tessa Rehaluk, Kaeleigh Folk, Allison Sopel, Brooke Olson, Nicole Tureski and Kristiaan Rayner. 

            Volunteer drivers were Jim Prekaski, Dale Lisoway, Ron Wagar, Dean Serdachny and Craig Lisoway.

            Kinsmen members participating were Tyler Blender and Daniel Wasylenchuk.

            The marathon raised a total of $4,741.

            The Sturgis Composite High School raised $2,405 through hats for charity, staff dress down days and the WE Day. The total amount raised by the marathon and school was $7,146.

            Sponsors for the marathon were Crossroads Credit Union for water bottles; Gateway Coop for water and pop for lunch; GX-94 radio for providing toques, and Garbanos Pizza in Canora for providing a deal on lunch.
