After last year’s Paint the Rink Pink event, the Maulers put on a show in the lobby of the Gallagher Centre as they auctioned off their pink jerseys.

This weekend, the Yorkton RawTec Maulers midget AAA team will suit up in pink for their annual Paint the Rink Pink breast cancer fundraiser.

For their third annual pink rink fundraiser, the Maulers are organizing a number of ways to help raise money for a disease that hits close to home for many people.

All proceeds from their silent auction and 50/50 draw from that game will go to the Canadian Cancer Society. There is free admission for everyone.

This year, the weekend is dedicated to Pat Friesen. She is the late wife of Lloyd Friesen, who is the president of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

Maulers’ marketing coordinator Ed Witherspoon said this event is something that the Maulers look forward to every year.

“With cancer - the last three years there’s been someone from the team or the league that it’s had an impact on,” he explained. “We want to give back, and to help. It’s a devastating disease and anything we can do to help out, we’ll do.”

During intermission, fans can sit back and watch the Skate Yorkton figure skaters put on a performance. There will be a silent auction at the rink during the game, and a 50/50 raffle.

The Paint the Rink Pink game will be held on Saturday evening at the Farrell Agencies Arena against the Swift Current Legionnaires. Fans are encouraged to wear as much pink as they can. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m.

After the game, the Maulers will auction off the pink jerseys that they’ll be sporting on the ice. The proceeds from the jersey auction will stay within the team.
