The Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires may be rivals in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League but they will work together on a major new promotion to put more fans in the seats at both arenas.

The new Terrier-Millionaires Challenge will see fans at both arenas having a chance to win a vintage 1972 Dodge Challenger at the end of the eight-game regular season series between the two teams.

"I think it's going to be good for the fans in both Yorkton and Melville," said Terrier General Manager Don Chesney.

Chesney said the idea for the promotion came from Doug Arnnett of Yorkton Dodge, who then brought Greg Vaughan of Melville Chevrolet on board to jointly provide the car valued at $21,000.

When attending regular season games in either rink fans will get a ticket that is colored either orange for the Terriers, or blue for the Millionaires. Whichever team accumulates the most tickets over the eight games, will have their fans have a chance to win the car at a later game in the season.

The fan will need to be in the arena the night of the final draw to win the Challenger.

"Fans are going to get a chance at winning a '72 Challenger without having to buy an additional ticket," said Chesney.

Chesney said getting fans out to games is increasingly a challenge, and the car promotion is extra incentive to hopefully pack the arenas during games between the two rivals.

He aded with the National Hockey League in a lock-out that people will turn back to Junior hockey and fan support will be strong this season.
