YRHS seniors win on the road

The YRHS senior boys football team took in a five-hour bus trip but made it a little easier on the way back home after beating up on the Swift Current Colts in Moose Jaw High School Football League (MJHSFL) action the Thursday before the long weekend.

There were a few players that really helped out, reports head coach Roby Sharpe.

"Dalton Fichtner (QB), Tyson Haas on defence, Adam McCannell, Layne Hull," explains coach Sharpe that day after they got home from a 43-20 win that ups their MJHSFL record to 4-1.

"We've got some real good leadership in the team."

Despite the win, it wasn't all smooth sailing, he said.

"We came out flat, honestly. It was a long road trip, we had to shake off the bus legs."

The YRHS team left Yorkton at 8 a.m., to arrive in Swift Current for a 4 p.m., kickoff.

"We shook it off (later)," notes Sharpe.

Swift Current got on the scoreboard first on a successful field goal but YRHS got it back, replying with a touchdown, says Sharpe.

"We rushed the ball mostly."

With the win, YRHS is at 4-1 in the MJHSFL standings. They trail the Central Collegiate Institute by a single win. Sharpe said CCI narrowly edged Moose Jaw's Vanier recently to perfect their league record which is now 5-0. YRHS was even with Moose Jaw's Peacock going into Swift Current.

The YRHS's final regular season game in the MJHSFL was scheduled for yesterday (Oct. 9) when they welcome Estevan to Yorkton to close out their regular season. The opening round of the playoffs is scheduled for Oct. 13 with the quarter finals.
