New recreational facility in Elbow taking shape

Line 19 Multiplex starting to come to life

ELBOW - The Line 19 Multiplex located in the village of Elbow is a project that has grabbed the attention of local residents in recent times, and now the dream held by many to have a brand-new, state-of-the-art events facility in the Lake Diefenbaker district is starting to become a physical reality as the building itself is starting to take shape.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held last October, and since then, crews have been on-site working to bring the vision to life of a venue that will serve the many needs of people and groups along the Line 19 highway corridor and beyond.

Project manager Jocelyn Veikle highlighted some of the work that's been done to this point and says she's keeping her fingers crossed that the facility may open its doors before the end of this year.

"We're excited to be seeing the structure come to life!" she said.  "The steel structure has been erected for the hall/gymnasium portion of the building, and exterior walls framed for the fitness centre, library, meeting rooms and kitchen. While we all are aware of the rapidly changing market conditions globally, we're cautiously optimistic that the building will be open before the end of 2022, months ahead of the original schedule."

With construction of the building still underway, attention has been turned toward a naming rights fundraiser being spearheaded by the Line 19 Multiplex Committee, who've been pleased with the response from the community so far.

Opportunities are up for grabs in order to have naming rights for rooms in the facility, as well as for the facility itself.

Sealed proposals for naming rights of the building are being accepted until the end of the business day on Tuesday, March 15 at the Village of Elbow office. Afterward, a committee of council will then review the proposals and then make a recommendation to Elbow's village council on which submission should be chosen to negotiate the terms of a naming rights agreement.  The Village is prepared to enter into a 10-year naming agreement that will include signage on the building's exterior, recognition and use of the name in official Village communications, an opportunity for the building's namesake to speak at the grand opening event, and recognition on social media and the Village of Elbow website.

As well, expressions of interest are being accepted until March 29 to purchase naming rights for a specific room or area within the facility.  These will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  The rooms that are available for naming rights and their prices are outlined here:

Gymnasium/Hall: $150,000
Library: $100,000
Large Meeting Room/Flex Space: $100,000
Fitness Centre: $50,000
Small Meeting Room: $50,000
Kitchen: $60,000
Stage: $40,000
Coat Room: $30,000
Servery: $30,000

It's being said that the names of the rooms will be for perpetuity after they've been approved.
