OUTLOOK - The Outlook Ice Hawks have been motoring along steadily and putting their bodies through a lot of physical force lately, recently juggling the SVHL league playoffs with the SHA 'B' Provincials.
With the league games out of the way, the team was able to focus on the provincial competition side of the game, and after recently besting Wadena, next up for them was a series of games against the Grenfell Spitfires.
That series began on Wednesday, March 9 at the Jim Kook Rec Plex in Outlook as the Ice Hawks played host. Try as they did, the Hawks just couldn't find a way to combat the onslaught being brought by the Spitfires, and Grenfell would leave town the victors on this night at a score of 7-2.
With their backs against the wall, Outlook knew the next game played on Saturday, March 12 in Grenfell's rink would be do or die, and luckily, they did. The Ice Hawks were able to mount a noticeable offense and found themselves surging ahead on the scoreboard, managing to keep the Spitfires at bay for the duration of the game. By the final buzzer, Outlook had rebounded and left town victorious at a score of 10-2.
Such a win would bring the action back to Outlook for the deciding Game 3, and with rabid fans in attendance, this one would decide who would advance to the final round in the provincial series. Taking an early headstart were the hosting Hawks, who were up 3-0 after the first period. That score would go up for Outlook by 2 and up for Grenfell by 1 after the second period, and unfortunately for the Spitfires, that would be all the roster would have on this day. The Ice Hawks returned in the third and sunk two more into the net to end the game at 7-1, signalling their journey to the final round of the 'B' Series Provincials.
The Ice Hawks will do battle with the Kindersley Klippers, who bested Hafford to stake their claim in the provincial series. Outlook's first game against Kindersley is slated for this coming Sunday afternoon, March 20 at the Jim Kook Rec Plex starting at 5:00.
