Myrtle Simpson, former resident of Yorkton and Theodore, widow of the late Jack Simpson, passed away on February 14, 2018 at the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson. She was 97 years of age.

Myrtle Simpson, former resident of Yorkton and Theodore, widow of the late Jack Simpson, passed away on February 14, 2018 at the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson. She was 97 years of age. Myrtle was born to John and Olga (nee Melhus) Hanson January 19, 1921 at Theodore. She took her schooling in Theodore with piano and art classes as extras. She then attended Business College in Yorkton, worked as a stenographer in Regina, then in Yorkton at the hospital. On November 28, 1944 she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Simpson. Together they farmed and raised a family of three. Gardens and canning were a big part of farm life and she was very grateful for electricity, which provided fridges and freezers. Myrtle and Jack spent winters curling and Myrtle coached figure skating for many years. She was very active in the Creekside Homemakers and as the organist at the Theodore United Church and then was a member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Choir in Yorkton. For many years she worked at the Theodore Credit Union and Theodore Hospital. In her free time she put her childhood art classes to good use and produced many lovely paintings. Predeceased by her husband Jack; parents John and Olga Hanson; sisters Pearl and Min and as well as great-granddaughter Ayla Bernaurer Pearce. She leaves to cherish and celebrate her life, sons: John (Patricia) of Theodore, Evan (Janet) of Yorkton; daughter Thelma (John) Pearce of St. Gregor; grandchildren: David, Robert, John Patrick (Ember), Michael (Alysson) and Thomas (Jamie), Donald, Alisdair and Dougal (Brianne) Todd; Eric (Rose), Andrew (Lindsay), Jonathan (Leah) and Matthew (Amy) Pearce; great-grandchildren: Brittany, Emma, William, Kiah, Cort, Owen, Emily, Bailey, Cooper, Alexander, Grace, Finn, Cullen, Cohen, Arlo; great-great-grandson Carrson; Diane McKinnel of Osler and many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Monday, February 19, 2018 from the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton with Rev. Deacon Luanne Hrywkiw and Rev. Nancy Brunt officiated. Organist, Judy Berg, led the congregation in the hymns 'This Is the Day the Lord Has Made', 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' and 'Lord of the Dance'. The interment took place in the Holy Trinity Parish Columbarium with Robert Simpson serving as the urn bearer. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com.
