Yorkton drops first game of SJHL season

YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers have finally suffered a loss in the SJHL regular season.

After five straight wins, the streak came to an end Sunday afternoon as the Terriers hosted the Humboldt Broncos at the Westland Insurance Arena.

Jacob Strizzi started things for the visitors scoring 4:47 into the game.

The Terriers erased the early lead as Vinay Junek scored a short-handed effort at 6:41.

The Terrier powerplay gave the home side a 2-1 lead as Jye Zawatsky scored a man advantage marker at 8:47.

However Humboldt responded with a powerplay effort of their own as Brayden Skogstad scored to tie things 2-2, a deadlock which survived into the middle stanza.

The Broncos controlled things through the second period with three unanswered goals.

Ryder Knutson scored 24 seconds into the frame, Gabriel Filion at 9:59, and Marik Mamic at 14:55 sending the visitors to the dressing room after 40-minutes up 5-2.

The teams would trade goals in the final frame.

Landen Stromme scored an unassisted effort at 1:26 to extend the Bronco lead to 6-2.

Keenan Ingram got that one back for Yorkton with a powerplay effort at 7:50.

Skogstad made it 7-3 with a Bronco marker at 10:18.

Tyler Palin added one more for the Terriers, to round out a 7-4 contest.

Ethan Farrow was tagged with the loss in the Terrier nets allowing three goals in just under 15-minutes of play. Callam Creig was in net for the rest of the game.

Meanwhile Edouard Gauthier took the win for Humboldt facing only 20 shots.

Next up Yorkton hosts Nipawin Friday, then head to Weyburn for action Saturday.
