Yorkton Terriers edge Hounds with four special-team goals

The Terriers hit the ice again Valentine’s Day as they are scheduled to play in Estevan, with the Bruins back at the Westland Insurance Arena Saturday, Feb. 15.

YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers took the home ice of the Westland Insurance Arena for a rare Sunday evening encounter.

The Terriers started the SJHL action against the visiting Notre Dame Hounds as Evan Auld scored a short-handed effort 3:42 into the contest.

Bryce Dahl made it 2-0 with a powerplay effort at 6:41.

The Hounds finally broke through with a goal at 11:01 by Pherson Loehndorf.

The Terriers were on the board again early in the second thanks to a powerplay effort by Thomas Ries at1:11 of the middle stanza.

Jaron Desnoyers made it 4-1 with a powerplay goal at 15:57 in the second.

A late goal by Neka Jean put the Hounds back in the hunt 4-2 before the second frame was over.

In the third Hudson Kerr scored an unassisted effort for Notre Dame to make it 4-3, a score which held until the final buzzer.

Callum Creig was in net for Yorkton facing 32-shots in the win.

Spencer Borsos guarded the twine for the Hounds facing 27-shots.

The Terriers record now sits at 27-16-1-0 for 55 points and second spot in the SJHL Sherwood Division, three back of front-running Weyburn with 58 points. Melville sits third with 49 points, with Estevan in fourth with 34.
