YORKTON - It was a holiday for most Monday but the Yorkton Terriers were in SJHL action in Humboldt.
The host Broncos took the lead with two unanswered first period goals, Rylan Hue and Maddox Amaral doing the damage.
The Terriers tied things early in the second as Tylan Henrikson at 2:44 and David Coyle at 2:56 scored.
Boris Kofman and Marik Mamic responded to push the Broncos back in front 4-2, before Jaron Desnoyers on the powerplay added a Terrier mark to make it 4-3 through 40-minutes of play.
It was a Desnoyers powerplay effort in the third – the only goal of the frame – that tied the game 4-4 and forced overtime.
The five-minute, three-on-three extra frame proved nothing and the game went to the shoot-out where the Terriers secured a road win.
Ethan Farrow was in the Terrier net facing 37-shots in the win.
Brad Holtvogt faced 34-shots in the loss for Humboldt.
Road action
The Yorkton Terriers tried their best Friday to offer up a dozen goals Valentine’s Day eve against the Estevan Bruins.
It took less than four minutes for Yorkton to jump to a 3-0 in the SJHL contest.
Thierry Laliberte started things with an unassisted goal 1:50 in.
Quinn Tavender scored at 3:09 and Carter Briltz added one at 3:33.
It was just the start of a very busy opening period goal wise which would see the Terriers up 5-4 after 20-minutes.
The Terriers added a powerplay goal by William Leonard and an even-strength effort by David Coyle for the teams five.
The host Bruins had goals by Kanye Huang, Ewan Rennie, with two and Kieran Ronan.
The Terriers went on a goal scoring spree in the second with five-unanswered efforts; David Coyle with three, Jaron Desnoyers and Riley Cormier the marksmen.
And that would be it, a 10-4 Terrier win.
Ethan Farrow was in net for Yorkton facing 43-shots in the win.
The Bruins split netminding efforts between Beck Boiteau and Zach Shaughnessy in the loss.
Back home
The teams faced-off again Saturday at the Westland Insurance Arena Saturday, and again there were lots of goals; this time the teams combining to score 11.
In the first the Bruins were clicking on special teams with Ewan Rennie and Kaelen Whittingham scoring powerplay efforts and Steven Steranka adding a short-handed effort.
David Coyle and Vinay Junek responded for the home side as the Terriers trailed 3-2 after the opening stanza.
The Terriers bounced ahead with Jye Zawatsky and Jaron Desnoyers scoring the only goals of the middle period to give Yorkton a 4-2 lead.
In the third Junek and Carter Briltz scored powerplay goals for Yorkton, with Chase Holt and Hayden Pimm scoring for Estevan to round out a 6-5 Yorkton win.
Callem Creig faced 36-shots in the Terrier net for the win, while Beck Boiteau saw 43-shots in the loss for Estevan.
With the trio of wins Yorkton sits with a record of 30-16-1-0 for 61 points and second place in the SJHL Viterra Division one point back of Weyburn with 62 points. Melville sits third with 53 points with Estevan last with 34-points.
