AMBER ALERT cancelled: Boy, 8, located and suspect in custody

Thunder Bay police say the boy has been found safe and the suspect has been arrested.

SASKATCHEWAN – Update 2: Thunder Bay Police Service has advised that the 8-year-old child and the 28-year-old male subject of the Amber Alert issued in Ontario earlier today have both been located. The child is safe and the male remains in police custody. He is charged with abduction, forcible confinement, and breach of a release order. He has a bail hearing in an Ontario court Wednesday. 

A man was arrested in a rural area of the city’s north side at about 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16.

Update: Sask. RCMP say that Thunder Bay Police Service has provided an update regarding what both the 28 year old and the child were last seen wearing. They have confirmed the accused was last sighted in the City of Thunder Bay in the late morning hours of Tuesday, May 16. Their last confirmed sighting was at about 11 p.m. on Monday, May 15 in the City of Thunder Bay. The 28 year old was last seen on foot in the late morning hours of Tuesday, May 16 in the Dublin Street area of Thunder Bay.

The Saskatchewan RCMP continues to monitor the situation and work in collaboration with Thunder Bay Police and Ontario Provincial Police on this matter. Should further investigation determine that they are in or are destined for Saskatchewan, they will provide additional information.

Original story: Sask. RCMP is sharing awareness of an Amber Alert for an eight-year-old boy issued on behalf of Thunder Bay Ontario Police Service and say they believe the suspect is headed to Prince Albert.

The boy is approximately four feet tall, 70 pounds, with a thin build, with brown eyes, brown hair. He was last seen wearing black and red shoes with Velcro straps.

The 28-year-old suspect is approximately five-foot-nine 190 pounds, with shoulder-length bleached blond hair, sometimes worn in a ponytail. He was last seen wearing black-rimmed glasses, a white baseball cap, a white shirt, grey shorts, and a grey sweater. Thunder Bay police say he is from Prince Albert, Sask. 

Based on preliminary information gathered from the Saskatchewan RCMP from communications with the Thunder Bay Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, the suspect is believed to be heading toward Prince Albert, Sask..

Saskatchewan RCMP is working in close collaboration with the Thunder Bay Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police Force to explore the possibility of extending the Amber Alert into Saskatchewan. The decision to extend the alert will depend on the confirmation of details about the suspect’s location, method of transportation and/or vehicle descriptors.
