REGINA – Tampering with a power meter is just a plain bad idea, and one that will end in a meeting with police.
RPS members investigated a report of a suspicious male in the yard of a residence on the 2500 block of Wascana Street on Nov. 19, where power was lost after noticing the stranger.
"When police arrived, the suspicious male was no longer there and the complainant’s power meter was found disconnected," said RPS in a media release. "A description of the suspect went out to all the other officers working, which resulted in the 37-year-old male, suspect being located, identified and arrested."
Further investigation revealed multiple incidents of a similar nature occurring over the past month. The incident on Wascana Street was the second occurrence on that block, and a meter was removed from a home on the 2500 block of Coronation Street on the same day. A residence on the 5000 block of Tudor Way also had a power meter removed on Nov. 14, as did a residence on the 2200 block of Grant Road on Oct. 31. Businesses were also targeted as a power meter was removed on the 900 block of Albert Street on Oct. 19 and a cord leading to a debit machine was cut on the 2700 block of Gordon Road on Oct. 22.
The man arrested was scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 21, facing charges of mischief under $5,000 and obstructing a peace officer.
