Saskatoon police charge two youths, 12 and 13, in death of 12-year-old

The youth was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

SASKATOON – Police have charged a 12-year-old male and 13-year-old male with manslaughter in connection to the to the death of a 12-year-old male on Feb. 19.

Both males are also being charged with four weapons related offences.

At about 3 a.m. on Feb. 19, patrol officers responded to a report on the 1000 block of Matheson Drive regarding a male youth who had sustained a serious injury. The youth was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

This is the city’s fifth homicide of 2024.

The fourth homicide occurred on Feb. 19. At about 1:51 p.m., patrol officers had responded to report of a male being stabbed on the 200 block of 20th Street West. The suspect had fled the scene before police arrived. A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital where he died a short while later.

Saskatoon’s third homicide happened on Feb. 17. Patrol officers had responded to a report of an injured person in a home on the 200 block of Avenue I South. Officers found a 48-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital where he died.

The second homicide was on Feb. 10.  A 48-year-old man was shot and killed at a home on the 200 block of Avenue K North. A 21-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder and four firearms-related offences.

The city’s first homicide was on Feb. 3. Saskatoon police had  found the body of a 25-year-old man from Alberta inside a home in the 600 block of Lisgar Avenue. A 34-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were each charged with first-degree murder in his death.
