MINISTIKWAN FIRST NATION – A 32-year-old Prince Albert man has been charged with numerous firearms related offences after an alleged abduction.
Turtleford/Glaslyn RCMP say that at about 4:20 p.m. on July 25 they got a report of an abduction. The police investigation determined a woman was being held against her will in a vehicle. Turtleford/Glaslyn RCMP, Loon Lake RCMP, Spiritwood RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP North Battleford Crime Reduction Team (CRT) members immediately began searching for the woman.
Investigators determined she was on Ministikwan First Nation and officers located the suspect vehicle parked outside a residence. They located the woman, who didn’t report any physical injuries to police.
The man was arrested nearby. Police say he initially provided a false name to them. Officers positively identified him and determined he was breaching a conditional sentence order. During a search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a firearm, ammunition, a baton, a knife, and a quantity of dried cannabis.
He was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm with readily-available ammunition, possession of a firearm knowing it was prohibited, three counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, fraud, and resisting/obstructing a police officer.
He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on July 27.
