LA RONGE – On Jan. 15, two people charged in the death of 24-year-old Edgar Ratt were committed to stand trial in Prince Albert Court of King’s Bench.
In November 2023, a preliminary hearing was held for Gracie Sandra-Lee Isbister, 21, and Cameron George Reinhard Ross, 24. The judge had reserved his decision until this week.
In July 2022, Isbister and Ross were charged with first-degree murder. Isbister was additionally charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm.
A third accused, Charmaine Charles, 22, was given a six-month conditional sentence. She previously had a preliminary scheduled for Dec. 4, 2023, on a charge of first-degree murder. That charge was amended on Dec. 7, 2023, to accessory after the fact. Then on Dec. 8, 2023, Charles pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of break and enter to a dwelling house with the intent to commit an indictable act and she was given a six-month conditional sentence.
Another accused, Katelyn Halkett, was charged with first-degree murder and break and enter with intent to commit an indictable act. The first-degree murder charge was withdrawn.
Two youth – who can’t be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act – were also charged.
There is a publication ban on the evidence presented in court.
La Ronge RCMP had responded to a report of an assault at a home on Jack Bell Place in Bell’s Point at about 3:15 a.m. on July 21, 2022. When they arrived, they found Ratt injured. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
