REGINA – A surveillance video outside a business caught two men committing a crime, and a third was picked up as a bonus.
The incident occurred on July 7 when police were called to the 2200 block of 12th Avenue, where and employee of a nearby business saw two men exchanging what looked like a firearm.
"While the responding officers were viewing the video, they received word from two patrol officers nearby that they had a male under arrest matching the description of one of the suspects in the video," said RPS in a media release. "The suspect was in possession of a large knife and a sword."
Officers were able to confirm that the man was one of the suspects in the video, and digging a little deeper, police discovered he was also wanted in a taxi cab robbery from June 22. In that instance, the suspect fled with not only a quantity of cash, but the cab as well. RPS later found the taxi cab abandoned.
Eventually, police were able to find the second suspect in the video after a member of the Canine Unit located the man on the 1400 block of Garnet Street.
Or so they thought.
"Through investigation they determined he was not the suspect they were looking for in relation to the earlier firearms call," RPS said. "However, he was in possession of a firearm, ammunition and a bladed weapon. He was also wanted on a warrant and was arrested."
It would be late Saturday morning before police caught up with the second suspect, who had bear spray and a firearm in his possession.
Tredon Wesaquate, 21, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon, four counts failure to comply, and single counts resist arrest and robbery.
Joseph Antoine, 26, was charged with three counts breach of a firearm prohibition and two counts carrying a concealed weapon (bear spray and a firearm).
Nevada Adams Rope, 27, was charged with breach of a weapons prohibition and carrying a concealed weapon.
Adams Rope will make a first court appearance on Aug. 24, while Wesaquate and Antoine appeared in Regina Provincial Court this morning.
In Court, the Crown consented to Antoine's release, on conditions including that he appear before the court when required, report to probation, live in an approved residence, and not possess any weapons.
Antoine's matters were adjourned to July 31.
