REGINA – A White Bear First Nation man learned exactly how much time he will spend behind bars today.
Jaymes Bigstone, 26, entered guilty pleas in Regina’s King Bench Court to trafficking cocaine, two counts stolen property under $5,000 and a single count possession of a sawed off Ruger .22 caliber rifle and ammunition without a license.
The Crown stayed a number of lesser charges.
The charges stem from an October, 2021 drug bust on the First Nation when the Carlyle RCMP executed a search warrant. In that raid, police found more than 36 grams of cocaine packaged into 68 bags, two illegally modified guns, drug paraphernalia and cash.
In a joint submission presented to Justice Peter Bergbusch, Crown and defence lawyers proposed a 42-month global sentence be served.
Justice Bergbusch agreed, sentencing Bigstone to 36 months on the trafficking charge, 12 months concurrently for the stolen property charges, and six months consecutive for the weapons offence.
