Youth pleads guilty to manslaughter in Jennifer Hendry's death

A sentencing hearing for the youth has been set for March 18, 2024.

LA RONGE – A youth has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in the death of Jennifer Hendry. His trial was scheduled to start Nov. 6 in La Ronge Provincial Court.

A sentencing hearing for the youth has been set for March 18, 2024. He remains in custody.

The youth, who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was originally charged with first-degree murder. The charge of robbery was stayed by the Crown.

Hendry’s body was found in her home on Waco Drive in Air Ronge Jan. 8, 2022.  Police have said the youth and Hendry weren’t known to each other.

Hendry was well-known in the communities of Air Ronge and La Ronge where she lived for almost 20 years, first as an instructor at Northlands College, and more recently with the La Ronge RCMP and Saskatchewan Health Authority, according to her obituary.
