Update: Second individual charged with threats made to school

As a result of continued investigation, a man was arrested at a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

Update Sept. 27, 3:19 p.m.: A second arrest has been made relating to threats being uttered at two schools in the area.

As a result of continued investigation, an adult male was arrested at a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation in relation to threats being uttered on Sept. 25.

A 30-year-old man, from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, is charged with uttering threats.

He is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Sept. 30.

Original post Sept. 26, 2:50 p.m.: Loon Lake RCMP are investigating two threats toward schools in the area. 

On Sept. 25 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Loon Lake RCMP received a report that a male uttered threats on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

Investigation determined the reported verbal threat was directed toward a school in the community. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

On Sept. 26 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Loon Lake RCMP received a report of threats posted to a social media platform.

Investigation determined the threat was directed toward a school on Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation.

As a result of continued investigation, officers located and arrested a male youth on Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation. He has been charged with uttering threats and was scheduled to appear in court in Loon Lake on Sept. 26.

Loon Lake RCMP have engaged both schools, and continue to keep them updated with progress in the investigations. If investigation into these or other incidents ever indicates that an imminent public safety risk exists, the police say they will notify the public.

Loon Lake RCMP say they take the safety of schools and students "extremely seriously."
