A man was taken to hospital with injuries following a shooting

The accused, from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, is dealing with numerous firearms charges.

AHTAHKAKOOP CREE NATION - A man is facing charges after a firearm was discharged on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. 

On Oct. 8 at approximately 8:55 p.m., Ahtahkakoop RCMP received a report of a shooting on the First Nation. 

Officers responded immediately and located an injured man, who had gunshot injuries, at the home. The man was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as non-life threatening. 

Investigation determined an altercation occurred between two men. A firearm was discharged and the victim was injured. 

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team (WEST) assisted in this investigation.

As a result of continued investigation, on Oct. 9 officers located and arrested a man at a residence on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. 

The accused, 19, from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, is charged with: discharge firearm with intent; assault with a weapon; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a firearm when knowing possession authorized; possession of restricted firearm with ammo without licence or registration; and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Oct. 10.
