BALJENNIE — Sympathy goes out to Elaine Poirier and family on the passing of 91-year-old Henri Poirier on Nov. 25. Henri and his wife Elaine had done a lot of planting to fill garden plots with bedding plants each year. They also had done the big planter pots on Battleford's main street. They watered and cared for them all summer and had done the fall clean-up. When Henri was able to operate a lawn mower, he spent a lot of time mowing many grassy areas in the Battlefords near Battleford West Place. Henri and Elaine lived in Battleford West Place for a few years. Due to ill health, he moved into a senior home in North Battleford where he passed away. The funeral was held on Dec. 2 at St. Vital Church in Battleford. Interment was at the Town of Battleford Cemetery. A reception was held at St. Vital Hall after the funeral.
Old man winter did come in full force with well below temperatures for a few days to mild up later. Dress warmly and make sure you don’t forget to plug in your vehicle for easy starting. Just take care, there are slippery areas on the streets and highways. The highway department have been kept busy fixing up the highways and slippery areas.
My husband Stanley and I wish one and all a very Merry Christmas and New Year to come.
I have enjoyed doing all the news write-ups on the Baljennie area for over 40 years. Many thanks to all those who have helped me with some news items. Merry Christmas to all my readers.
The holiday season and Christmas season have come in fast. It's time to get started early on all your celebrations. The custom of of sending Christmas cards originated in England in 1843, where the first known Christmas cards were designed by John Calcott Horsley. It has been carried on all through the years. Even in the past few years, Christmas cards have been given. With a postal strike on, there will be fewer cards sent. May this season be a time of friendship, cheer, and memories that last throughout the New Year. May your home be filled with the warmth of Christmas and the best wishes for your happiness in the New Year. Happy and Merry Christmas to all.
