Battleford’s youth Eagle Nest group home approved until 2025

The issues regarding Eagle's Nest youth care home that were raised in 2019 have seemingly been resolved, with only a few letters received by the town since 2021 regarding parking.

BATTLEFORD — Battleford town council has approved Eagle’s Nest Youth Ranch's discretionary use application for their youth group home a 61-28th Street West, which houses six youth.

In 2019, when the group home was proposed, the town received several letters in opposition, citing perceived issues, including the possibility of decreased property values, a lack of parking space, and general noise in the neighbourhood, among other issues.

Following discussion at three town council meetings in a row, the council passed the application at their June 17, 2019, meeting.

Since Eagle Nest's Feb. 16, 2021, renewal with the Town of Battleford, all of the conditions have been fulfilled by Eagle’s Nest. There have been no complaints except for a few letters stating that staff were parking on the street, and the town communicated that to Eagle’s Nest.

Town council has now approved a further two-year term ending Feb. 16, 2025, at which time council will review and re-evaluate the use.

“I’m just grateful that we’re able to have this in our community,” Councillor Alexis Christensen said. “I’m realizing now that I don’t really know a lot about (Eagle's Nest) it. I would like to learn a little more and see how it benefits our community further.”
