Update: Suspicious death being investigated on Makwa Sahgaiehcan

The man who sustained injuries as a result of a serious assault that occurred on Sept. 23 at a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation has since died in hospital.

MAKWA SAHGAIEHCAN FIRST NATION - Update Sept. 27, 2024, 10:40 p.m.: A serious assault on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation is now being investigated as a suspicious death.

The man who sustained injuries as a result of a serious assault that occurred on Sept. 23 at a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation has since died in hospital. He has been identified as 35-year-old Shoshone Morningchild of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

The Saskatchewan RCMP is releasing his name in an effort to elicit tips from the public and help further the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the assault is asked to report it to the Saskatchewan RCMP at 310-RCMP or to their local police service or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes and General Investigation Sections have taken carriage of this suspicious death investigation. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is also engaged and an autopsy has been ordered.

Original post Sept. 24, 2024, 5:04 p.m.: RCMP are investigating following an assault on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation. 

On Sept. 23 at approximately 9 a.m., Loon Lake RCMP received a report of a serious assault that occurred at a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.

Officers responded along with EMS and located an injured man outside the home. He was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.

Loon Lake RCMP continue to investigate.
