Archives Week 2012 in North Battleford will be marked with two events at local malls.

Displays will be in place Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Frontier Mall from noon to 5 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 9 at the Coop Mall from noon to 6 p.m. This is the 5th annual Archives Week event in North Battleford and the focus, with the 2013 Centennial Celebrations in mind, will be the "Celebrations" of the past.

In honour of our province's heritage and the work that has gone into ensuring its preservation, and to promote the role of archives in society, we have Archives Week, states the Saskatchewan Council for Archives and Archivists.

It is held during the week of Feb. 8, to coincide with the birthday of Edmund H. Oliver, who was the first professor of history at the University of Saskatchewan, and arguably the father of archives in this province.

Members of the council believe such recognition is well deserved. It will foster identity and pride in the past with displays and special events. It will help elevate the role of the province's archival institutions as keepers of authentic evidence of the past.

Tammy Donahue Buziak, archivist and the committee members of the City of North Battleford Historic Archives invite you to visit the mall displays and enjoy the images and documents while reminiscing about the past. Anyone with original photographs and/or documents pertaining to the City of North Battleford they would like to donate, please use this event as an opportunity to do so.

See you there.
