Do you have a child eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall of 2012? Registration forms have been mailed out but if you are new to the community, or have been missed, please contact the school as soon as possible. Registrations should be completed by March 31 as there will be an informational meeting for kindergarten parents Apr. 18.

The Neilburg seniors held their regular monthly games day, March 5 at the Friendship Korner. Marlene Washenfelder and Edith Christensen teamed up to win the A side of the shuffleboard tournament, held during the morning. Mary Graham and Tom Poppleton were the runners-up. On the B side, Les Christensen and Edna Jeffrey were the winners, with Rose Leitheiser and Della Thom in second position.

Joe Nuspl was the lucky raffle winner. In the afternoon, after the soup and sandwich luncheon, cribbage was played. Brian Gibb and Les Christensen had the high hands and Lyle and Della Thom were the low players. The next games day will be held Apr. 2.

The Jail and Bail for Telemiracle, held at Neilburg Composite School, was a financial success, raising approximately $3,000 for this worthwhile cause. It was a busy day with everyone enjoying themselves immensely.

Once again, in conjunction with parent/teacher interviews, the Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the NCS Library. What better way to promote reading to students than by supporting literacy? For every $10 spent at the fair, approximately $6 goes directly back to the school to obtain new books and resources for the library. Interviews will be held March 20 and 22. Students enjoyed two days out of the classroom March 16 and 19; one of these was a PLC day and the other was in lieu of interviews.

The Gross Classic Volleyball Tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 28. Contact Greg or Brenda Gross if you are interested in entering a team in the event. The majority of the players should be from the local Marsden/Neilburg area.

The Grade 7 and 8 class at NCS held a successful Bouma Meats roast fundraiser. Special appreciation to Tammy Ryan and Joanne Marshall for picking up the roasts and helping to sort them into the individual orders.

A special thank you is also extended to Daryl and Sharon Sawtell for their kind donation of sausages to the NCS hot lunch program.

Mr. Gieni reports that for the second consecutive year NCS has had a junior girls' basketball team. The team played in a league with surrounding schools. At the beginning of the season the team started off slowly but near the end, they showed great improvement. Other teams would comment on how much the team had improved from the start of the year up to the year-end tournament. At that tournament, the NCS girls managed to win a close game against Hillmond to put them into the semifinal against the top ranked Maidstone team. The girls put in a good effort but fell short, thus ending the season.

A big thank you to all of the parents who drove this year, and to the fans who came out and cheered on the girls. The players making up the team were: Jenna McGarry, Jordan McGarry, Courtney Cammidge, Kylie Goodfellow, Lauren Loy, Chloe Marshall, Kailee McGarry, Taylor Morgan, Mariah Nattress, Loralee Ryan, Paige Watson and Hanna Herle. We'll see you next year!

Mrs. Carlton is enthusiastic about the great season the junior curlers from NCS had this year. There were nine junior curlers - Bailey Tyler, Courtney Cammidge, Ethan Moir, Taylor Morgan, Garret Brockhoff, Kylie Goodfellow, Taryn Black, Taryn Timmermans and Paige Watson. Divisions were held in Lashburn and both teams played very well and had a lot of fun, however, only one team advanced.

Kylie Goodfellow, Taryn Black, Taryn Timmermans and Paige Watson were undefeated at districts. Unfortunately the day before districts, Kylie hurt her ankle. Luckily Garret was able to fill -in, and he did an excellent job. They won their first game and had a tough game against a St. Walburg team. Landon Watson helped coach and many parents assisted with the driving. Thank you all for a great season!

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of George Blain on the loss of their loved one. He was remembered at a graveside service held recently at Wycollar Cemetery.
