THE BATTLEFORDS - The winter storm may have ended in Saskatchewan, but it left behind some bad road conditions in the province.

As of 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Highway Hotline was reporting winter conditions or worse across the province's roads. The good news was that most of the highways surrounding Regina and Moose Jaw, including Highways 1 and 11, were back open after being closed by blizzard conditions Tuesday.

The bad news was that one section of Highway 1 was still closed between Regina and Moose Jaw. Saskatchewan RCMP have reported that vehicles are backed up on the highway between the two cities, and emergency responders are turning motorists back from travelling on the eastbound lanes at Moose Jaw Highway 39 in order for tow trucks to get through to open the roadway and clear the many vehicles that are at a standstill.

The other surrounding highways around Regina were now listed as "Travel Not Recommended." Portions of Highway 11 up to Prince Albert and several other highways in the central part of the province also carried that warning, including large portions of highways 2 and 6 between Highways 11 and 16.

Around the Northwest area, most roads were now listed as having winter conditions, but a portion of Highway 378 between Highways 4 and 324 was listed as Travel Not Recommended. As well, a portion of Highway 26 from the Highway 4 junction up to Vawn was listed as Travel Not Recommended.
