This was the scene at the Civic Centre at the stroke of midnight Tuesday as the balloons were dropped to celebrate the start of North Battleford's centennial year of 2013. The "Let's Get the Party Started!" event was sold out. Also well-attended was the family event Centennial Fun Day at Don Ross Centre where children were able to take part in a number of fun activities with their families.

The centennial year of 2013 kicked off in grand style on New Year's eve.

The hub of New Year's activities was the Civic Centre where the "Let's Get the Party Started!" event took place.

Once MC Jay Crockett had helped the audience count down the seconds until the scoreboard clock hit midnight, the green and blue balloons were released from above and the King Street Station Jazz Band started playing Auld Lang Syne.

It culminated a successful day and night of activities for the North Battleford 2013 Centennial Committee, with the Civic Centre event sold out. About 800 people were at the event. Among the revelers were civic officials including Mayor Ian Hamilton as well as a number of councillors.

In addition to the King Street Station Band, Rosetta and Blue Denim were the other acts scheduled. There was also plenty of food and, of course, drink, and a big celebration cake was rolled out.

Earlier in the day, the Don Ross Centre was the venue for Centennial Fun Day where families spend the afternoon taking part in various activities, including a puck-shoot contest and even sumo wrestling.

These were just the start of centennial activities that are to continue throughout 2013, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of North Battleford as a city. A winter carnival is set to be the next major event on the schedule on Feb. 3.
