City-wide hunt on until Sept. 30

Sometimes trips to the sprinklers at Water Ridge Park or a blizzard from Dairy Queen just don't cut it and people in Humboldt are looking for new ways to liven up their summer. Well the City of Humboldt has you covered.

The historic Humboldt post office (now the Humboldt & District Museum & Gallery) is sure to be one of the 21 locations on the city-wide scavenger hunt. Built in 1911, the building was recently designated a provincial heritage site.

Sometimes trips to the sprinklers at Water Ridge Park or a blizzard from Dairy Queen just don't cut it and people in Humboldt are looking for new ways to liven up their summer.

Well the City of Humboldt has you covered.

During the Canada Day long weekend, the city launched the first-ever "Discover Humboldt - the Game" to coincide with the tourism season.

But it isn't just for tourists, it's for anyone.

"It's for groups, individuals, families, people who live here, people who are new to here. It's for anyone," Jennifer Brooks, director of communications and community development for the City of Humboldt, said.

The game consists of a giant scavenger hunt throughout the Humboldt community "to identify and capture key tourist attractions." Twenty-one locations will be on the list, all in the forms of riddles for the participants to figure out. They'll then have to go to the site to either take a picture, get a signature or perform another action to prove they were at the location.

Five City of Humboldt gift packages are up for grabs, so all participants will automatically be entered into the running to win the prize.

The game is the brain-child of Brooks, Brent Zlukosky, community development officer for the city, and the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce.

Brooks remained playfully mum when pushed for more information about the locations, but did say not all of them "are necessarily locations."

Well, that's a riddle in itself.

The game is available at the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce/ Visitor Information Booth on Highway 5 East and runs from now until Sept.30.

The form isn't available online, as the city wants people to get out of the comfort of their home and start exploring the many facets of the city.

"We have a great community and a beautiful area around us. We want you to get out and start seeing it," Brooks said.
