A proposed donation of city land for a First Nations heritage park has been pushed back again.

A notice of motion from Councillor Trent Houk, brought forward from the June 11 council meeting and voted June 25, was the reason for the hold up on a decision whether the City would donate parcels of land in the southeast quadrant to the Battlefords First Nations Heritage Park Corp. The city land is located between Gold Eagle Lodge and the Western Development Museum.

Houk's motion called for "Council to refer to legal counsel for an opinion on whether, when considering business involving BTC or any of its companies, should His Worship and/or Councillor Fox disclose an interest or perceived interest, refrain from negotiations and/or participation in discussion or vote, and leave the council chamber."

Both Councillor Ray Fox and mayor Ian Hamilton voted in favour of the resolution and it passed. Counillor Ron Crush cast the lone vote against.

The resolution on the proposed land donation hasnow been pushed back to council's July meeting at the earliest. Meanwhile, a legal opinion will be sought on whether Fox or Hamilton could be in conflict and whether they should refrain from participating in the vote on the heritage park.
