Dekker charged with sexual assault

A charge of sexual assault has been laid against Harry Dekker, 55, of North Battleford.

RCMP confirmed the charge Monday afternoon in a news release. Sgt. Warren Gherasim of Warman RCMP also confirmed to the News-Optimist that Dekker has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

According to Warman RCMP, on Sept. 10 they received a report of a sexual assault.

An adult woman told police she had been the victim of a sexual assault by a North Battleford area man she was acquainted with and with whom she was travelling with in a vehicle on Highway 16 during the early morning hours on that date.According to Gherasim, the incident is alleged to have taken place sometime between "late night hours of the ninth to the early morning hours of the tenth."

According to the RCMP news release, the woman alleged that she was the victim of unwanted sexual touching from the man while they were travelling to North Battleford in a vehicle. She has alleged the incident took place near the town of Borden.

An investigation was conducted by Warman RCMP Detachment and the charge of sexual assault was laid against Dekker.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Provincial Court in Saskatoon on Jan. to answer to the charge. Until then, Sgt. Gherasim says Dekker has been released on a promise to appear in court in conjunction with an undertaking.
