Flying Dust man wants a jury trial on murder charge

MEADOW LAKE – A man accused of killing 43-year-old Kenneth Merasty wants a trial by judge and jury.

Conrad Joseph Jay Merasty, now 32, of Flying Dust First Nation is charged with second-degree murder in connection to Kenneth Merasty’s death.

Lucy Annelle Whitecap, 32, of Nipawin, was also charged with second-degree murder but pleaded guilty in Meadow Lake Provincial Court to the lesser charge of manslaughter. She is due back in court on March 22 for a sentencing hearing.  A trial at Battleford Court of Queen’s Bench hasn’t been set yet for Conrad Merasty. He has pre-trial scheduled for March 18.

Kenneth Merasty died after being stabbed in a home on Deer Street on Flying Dust First Nation Feb. 9, 2021. Flying Dust First Nation is located adjacent to the city of Meadow Lake.

The charges against Conrad Merasty haven’t been proven in court.
