The Humboldt Habitat for Humanity project, now heading into its fifth month of construction, is looking for new volunteers.
There have been many hands that have contributed many man-hours since the build began in July 2012. The finished project will be a duplex that two working families will be purchasing and living in.
As the build advances, however, so does the need for more volunteers, according to volunteer coordinator Connie Danyluik.
"Basically we need some new volunteers," Danyluik said. "Lots of the volunteers that originally signed up have been working a lot of the days, and we need some new blood. So we thought now that the house is up and people can actually see the progress that's been made, they might be a little more interested in helping."
With that goal in mind, the Habitat for Humanity committee have planned a Volunteer Blitz for November 6. Danyluik says what they need and hope to find are more people who may be available mid-week.
"A lot of the people we have on our list are working people," she said, "and they can't necessarily come during the week. We find that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are often pretty skinny days for volunteers."
At this point in the build, all the work that needs to be done is happening indoors. Site manager Tim Prytula says they are getting quite caught up now in the timeline, with the goal of finishing by mid-January.
"Things are moving along fairly quickly," he said. The heating is what's going to take some time."
Prytula says on the average, it takes five to seven days to do all the heating and duct work when a new house is being built.
"The heating has to be all done so that I can box in all the duct work and drywall the ceiling," added Prytula.
Once all the drywall is up, he explained, professional tapers will come in to prepare the walls for painting. Other finishing jobs will be laying the laminate on the floors, and assembling the cupboards and cabinets that have already been ordered.
"There's still a lot of inside work to be done," confirmed Danyluik. "Tim Prytula is very good with inexperienced workers, showing them what to do and then letting them do it. And they feel quite good at the end of the day when they see what they have accomplished.
"Even if you only want to work one shift," Danyliuk added, "come on out and sign up."
The Volunteer Blitz will be held at the Bella Vista Inn, Tuesday, November 6 from 7-9 p.m.
