It was a big cheque in many ways. On December 20, on behalf of PotashCorp, Rob Bubnick (centre), general manager of the PotashCorp Lanigan mine, presented a cheque for $23,000 to Humboldt Fire Chief Norbert LeBlanc (left) and firefighter Graham Hall (right, also an employee of the Lanigan mine) for the purchase of a new Jaws of Life for the Humboldt Fire Department. Hall was the one to request the funds for the HFD this fall, and as the purchase fit the PotashCorp requirements for donations to a T - it will not only benefit the community of Humboldt, which is among the top two centres where employees of the mine live, it improves safety in the area. "Safety is very important to us," Bubnick told the Journal. The $23,000 will cover the purchase of a new, battery-powered cutter and spreader - two tools that are part of the Jaws of Life. Funds raised by the sale of calendars created for the HFD to sell will allow the department to purchase more such tools, like rams. The presentation was made at the Lanigan mine.
