North Saskatchewan River Municipal Health Holdings clinics continue to be very busy especially with the flu season just around the corner, board members were told at a regular meeting Oct. 22

Prairie North Health Region has implemented new initiatives to enhance care in the area. A pharmacist has been hired to provide services at the Riverside Clinic one day a week. The pharmacist will provide various services to the patients such as consults on medications, smoking cessation and education about new medications to name a few.

Nurse practitioner Natalie Warrington will be providing a women's health day at the Thunderchild Health Centre two days a month. The service will be open to anyone in the First Nations community, but will be geared towards health of the women in the community.

The board is supportive of these new services as part of the Primary Care Model.

Dr. Ghauri will be completing his locum services the beginning of December. Prairie North Health Region and Health Holdings continue to work with two physicians in the assessment and immigration process. The board says it is hopeful one of the physicians will have completed her Saskatchewan International Physician Assessment Program by the end of January.

Patients who have booked an appointment that will no longer be needed, are urged to let the clinic know. Administration said it is frustrating for the staff and practitioners when there is an opening that could have been made available to someone in need. A quick phone call to notify the staff would be greatly appreciated, they say.

The next regular board meeting will be held Monday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the RM Of Mervin office, Turtleford.
