RCMP have arrested a fifth person for the murder of Damian Moosomin, 20 of North Battleford.

Denver Roy, 36, of Sweetgrass First Nation was arrested on April 23 in North Battleford and charged with accessory after the fact to murder and improperly interfering with human remains. Roy appeared as a prisoner by phone on April 26 in North Battleford Provincial Court.

He kept interrupting the judge during the proceedings.

“Excuse me your honour, excuse me your honour can I say something please.

“Your honour. Can I add something really,” he said again interrupting the judge.

“I just wanted to know if I could get a 30-day psych assessment at Sask Hospital to see if I’m fit to stand trial,” said Roy.

“You legally should be careful about that, you should talk to a lawyer. These are serious charges,” cautioned Judge Murray Pelletier.

His matter was adjourned to May.

Crown Prosecutor Jennifer Schmidt opposed Roy’s release.

Last week RCMP Major Crime Unit South charged Tye Partridge, 23, from Moosomin First Nation with first-degree murder and Jannay Blackbird, 32, from Saulteaux First Nation with second-degree murder. Stormy Wapass-Semaganis, 23, from Edmonton, and Melissa Semaganis, 41, from Poundmaker First Nation, were charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Moosomin’s body was found in the 1500 block of 105th Street in North Battleford on May 16, 2020. He was reported missing to police on May 11, 2020.
