MAIDSTONE – Update Oct. 31: On Oct. 28, Maidstone RCMP received a report of found human remains in a pasture about 10 kilometres north of Alcurve.

Further investigation by Maidstone RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service determined the deceased is Serayne Kematch. His family has been notified.

Because preliminary investigation indicates Seryane’s death was not suspicious in nature, say RCMP, they are unable to provide any additional details.

Original post Oct. 29: RCMP have found human remains in a rural area in the R.M. of Britannia and say they are working with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service to formally identify the deceased and determine the cause of death.

A spokesperson from Saskatchewan RCMP said that on Oct. 28 Maidstone RCMP received a report of human remains found.

“Maidstone RCMP has notified families of missing persons in the area of this discovery, and will keep them updated as the investigation continues,” said the RCMP.

An Onion Lake Cree Nation resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, on Monday night, said the remains were that of missing man Serayne Kematch.

The person said the remains were found “just below Jumbo Hill,” adding that the site is “currently being watched by police dogs and investigators will be there tomorrow [Tuesday] morning.”

The person said that ranchers had found the body.

Saskatchewan RCMP haven’t confirmed that the remains are that of 28-year-old Kematch who has been missing since April 10. He was last seen walking north of a business in Alcurve in the RM of Britannia near the intersection of Highways 3 and 17 around noon on that day.

RCMP had conducted ground searches of the area because police were told that he was going to walk back through the rural area to Onion Lake.
