RCMP searching for Kashtin Sandfly - again

Police say Kashtin Sandfly could be in be in Loon Lake, Meadow Lake, Onion Lake, Lloydminster, or Pierceland.

PIERCELAND -  RCMP are searching for 23-year-old Kashtin Sandfly again after he left the residence he was supposed to be at 24-hours a day.

On Oct. 8, Pierceland RCMP charged Sandfly with one count, fail to comply with release order. The release order was related to charges still before the courts, including discharging a firearm while being reckless, unauthorized possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, flight from police and possession of stolen property.

Pierceland RCMP are working to locate Sandfly and are now asking for public assistance.

Sandfly was granted bail following a show cause hearing in Loon Lake circuit court on Sept. 22.

Loon Lake RCMP were searching for Sandfly in December 2021 and he was apprehended in April. He then made his first appearance in Lloydminster court before his new charges of possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime were waived to Meadow Lake court so those charges and his Loon Lake charges could be dealt with together.

Sandfly’s Loon Lake charges stem from a Dec. 21, 2021, incident where a shot was fired at a home on Island Lake First Nation around 8 a.m., which injured a man inside. Approximately four hours later, Loon Lake RCMP responded to a report of an injured man inside a vehicle. They found the vehicle on a remote heavily snow-covered road and an injured man was inside. Police had to transport him to a main road so he could receive medical attention.

Police charged Sandfly with discharging a firearm with intent and being in a vehicle knowing there was a firearm. Police released his photo and warned the public that he was considered armed and dangerous. When describing him, police said Sandfly had multiple tattoos on his face and neck including star tattoos around his right eye, a bird tattoo on the right side of his neck, and a tattoo with the word “Loyalty” above his left eyebrow.

Sandfly appeared in Lloydminster court in April and his charges were waived from Lloydminster court back to Meadow Lake court.

Sandfly is scheduled to appear in Loon Lake circuit court on Nov. 3 to enter a plea. The charges against Sandfly haven’t been tested in court.

Sandfly is approximately five foot nine with a slender build. He has dark hair, which is normally cut short. He has distinctive tattoos on his face and neck.

Although his current whereabouts are unknown, Sandfly is known to travel to the areas of Loon Lake, Meadow Lake, Onion Lake, Lloydminster and Pierceland, as well as Cold Lake and Bonnyville, Alta.
