Update: Charge laid in death on Beardy's and Okemasis'

A 28-year-old man died when a firearm was discharged inside a house.

BEARDY'S AND OKEMASIS' CREE NATION  - Update Sept. 15: RCMP say 20-year-old Clayton Mandes of Beardy's and Okemasis' Cree Nation has been charged with one count of manslaughter in relation to the death of 28-year-old Denzel Cameron of Beardy's and Okemasis' Cree Nation.

Clayton was arrested without incident the morning of Sept. 14 at a residence on Beardy's and Okemasis' Cree Nation. He will appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Monday, Sept. 16.

Original post Sept. 14: RCMP Major Crimes are investigating a suspicious death on Beardy's and Okemasis' Cree Nation.

Around 2:20 a.m. Sept. 14, Rosthern RCMP responded to a report of a weapons incident at a residence on the First Nation. They determined a firearm was discharged inside the residence, resulting in a 28-year-old male being injured. EMS responded and provided initial medical assistance. The male died shortly after, say RCMP.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes are investigating with the assistance of Saskatoon and Prince Albert RCMP General Investigation Sections, RCMP Forensic Identification Section, Rosthern RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

No increased risk to public safety is identified at this time, say RCMP. More information will be provided when possible.
