During Education Week [in 1997], students throughout the Tisdale School Division were invited to enter a poster and essay competition sponsored by the Tisdale Teachers’ Association.
Judges for the competition were Julien LeStrat, Ted Degenstein, Jim Weseen, Steve Sobool, Netha Parmentier, Marian Fargey, Maureen Donald and Eldeen Chupa. One student winner was selected from each grade and each winner was presented with a sweatshirt bearing the Education Week theme “Saskatchewan - World Class Education.”

What School Means For Me
I have never realized how important school was until this year. For years I’ve hated the long classes and assignments, the teachers and the questions. Now I don’t. It’s my last year in the school I’ve attended for seven long years. A tiny school where everyone knows each other by name, and everyone sticks together. Next year we’re being torn apart. Our little school is closing. I always thought I hated it.
I knew we'd all graduate someday and our class of thirteen would go in separate ways. I thought it would be one of the best days of my life, graduating high school with the greatest people I knew. Then we’d split up, some going to university, some working in gas stations. It wouldn’t be so bad though, because they’d be the people I’d remember. Now it isn’t going to happen. Instead I’ll remember ten people of my graduating class of a hundred at a new school.
School is a good thing, I realize that now. I always knew it was for the fact that it taught us what we needed to know to survive, our math skills, our sciences, our literature. But what a million people don’t realize is that school gives us lifelong friends, people we’ll never forget, or at least never want to. It gives us something other than the power to be smarter, it gives us emotional maturity and the smarts to make decisions that will affect our entire lives. It also gives us experiences to make us better people. Even though I’ll miss my class, maybe our separation will make us all stronger, willing to become more outgoing to meet new friends.
I believe the most important thing that school gives us is the friends and experiences. I can’t imagine life without these things and I know I couldn’t survive if I quit school emotionally or in the work world. I’m going to go to university even though I never wanted to before. Not only will I lead a more successful work life, I will meet even more people and have even more experiences. May as well make life the best it can be!

Education
What is education?
A study about the tasks of life,
Hours and hours of researching history,
A never-ending page of notes,
Lessons we will use forever.
What is education?
Something that gives obstacles to overcome,
Something that teaches you the difference between right and wrong,
Something that gives you a sense of identity,
Lessons we will use forever.

Why I Like School
I like school because there are teachers and lots of information. Teachers help me do things and even help some of my dreams come true. School helps prepare me for the future. School also helps me find out what I'm good at so I can know what I could do for my career when I get older. I believe everybody should get a fair chance at education. I also believe that everybody should get a chance at life. So that I could get a better education so as I grow up I know I will get a great career.

The Importance of Education
Education is an important part in everyone’s lives. It builds children into responsible and intelligent adults. School prepares us for the future and teaches us how to be successful in the years to come.
School allows us to learn about and understand other cultures, religions, traditions and beliefs. By learning about differences, students are able to see different points of view which will help us get along better in the world.
School is very important because it educates us and gives us information we need to survive in this world today. Education helps people to become what they were meant to be and succeed in life as best as they possibly can.
Education is desperately needed in today’s society. Someone without an education cannot climb the ladder to success because they are not taken seriously by the world. The ones with an education will be the ones who get the jobs.
In conclusion, school is a necessity that must be completed to show the world what your true talent is.
