Torching case adjourned

The case of Brett Scholl, the 19-year-old accused of torching his ex-girlfriend's car, has been adjourned until Dec. 21.

The case of Brett Scholl, the 19-year-old accused of torching his ex-girlfriend's car, has been adjourned until Dec. 21.

Scholl appeared indifferent to the proceedings, avoiding eye contact with the many family members and friends of the victim present in the court room.

Judge David Kaiser said he was adjourning the case because he hadn't had enough time to review the material, which included impact statements from the family.

"This we way we can give the case the time it deserves," said Kaiser.

The victim's mother said the process has been difficult, and although she understands why the case has been adjourned, she would like it to have the matter dealt with.

"Christmas is around the corner and it would be nice to have it all settled by then," she said.

Judge Kaiser apologized to the family, saying, "I regret not being able to go ahead with this today."

Scholl will remain in custody until his hearing, Dec. 21.
