A week of sporting excitement came to an end in the Battlefords Saturday as the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games drew to a close.
Prior to the closing ceremonies at the Civic Centre, the host Rivers West continued to add to their medal totals as they finished the event in third place with 69 medals.
The big result of the day came in the U14 male boardercross division with Battleford’s Madax Ma-L’Heureux taking home the gold and teammates Rio Tucker and Kasen Humenny of North Battleford joined him on the podium.
Cut Knife’s Soleil Toovey (female individual bowling), Battleford’s Kai Holden (male U17 boardercross) and Meadow Lake table tennis competitors Paxton McKee (single cadet female) and Noah Pigott (single cadet male) all picked up bronze medals, a result that were matched by the mixed U19 badminton and the male bowling teams.
Meanwhile, two major team titles were also decided Saturday.
The female hockey gold medal went to Prairie Central as they came away with a 3-1 win over South East, while Madison Kleiter of Saskatoon led her rink to a 7-4 victory in the female curling final over the South West rink skipped by Skylar Ackerman on Chamberlain.
