SASKATOON - The trial in progress for a man facing a second-degree murder charge in Saskatoon has now been adjourned to May 2025.

The Court of King's Bench in Saskatoon confirmed Thomas Hamp's trial was adjourned again after it was originally postponed to continue on Dec. 17, 2024.

The trial has now been adjourned to continue on May 26 to 30, 2025.

Crown prosecutor Cory Bliss confirmed to SaskToday that the postponement was requested by the Defence counsel in the case.

"This was a Defence request for adjournment," Bliss said Friday. "They did not have a report from their expert to provide to the Crown. So we couldn't continue the trial without a Defence expert report."

The expert is a witness for the Defence.

Hamp is facing charges in the death of 25-year-old Emily Claire Sanche.

Hamp is accused of stabbing Sanche. Saskatoon Police previously said they responded to a report of a stabbing on Feb. 20, 2022, in the 2700 block of Main Street East in Saskatoon where they found two people with stab wounds. Sanche later died of her injuries.
