UNITY - The weather didn’t co-operate when the Unity Senior Cardinals sought to entice fans out for their June 15 game against the Lloydminster Twins, but the cool temperatures didn’t deter the Cards who came away with a 7-3 victory. A few hardy fans were there to cheer them on, with some enjoying the beverages at the mini beer garden.
With the win, the Cardinals moved ahead of the Twins in the standings. They now sit in fourth with a 2-3-1 record, behind the North Battleford Beavers who are 4-2-1. The Meadow Lake Sox and Standard Hill Lakers lead the pack with six wins each.
Starting pitcher Garin Scherr stayed in for the duration, striking out 10 of Lloyd’s batters.
The bottom of the fourth was a highlight for the Cards and their fans as they started out down 1-0 but were able to more than run through their entire batting order to put up all seven runs.
The Cardinals will travel to play the Standard Hill Lakers on June 20 and return to home diamonds June 27, hosting the Glaslyn Orioles. This will leave four games left to play in regular season before playoffs begin.
