The Unity Union Hospital board approved purchase of a new ambulance and organization of an ambulance service.
CN Rail issued a stern warning to snowmobilers of its intention to apprehend and prosecute those who travelled across its tracks or along its right-of-way. Three people had been killed the previous winter and several more injured when their snowmobiles were struck by trains.

Despite the initial disappointment, Unity-born Boyd Gordon, who played for the Red Deer Rebels and was a first-round pick of the Washington Capitals, was proud of the silver medal he won as a member of the Canadian team at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Halifax, N.S. The Canadians lost the gold medal game 3-2 to Russia.
