Longevity of Kerrobert Pool in question

A cold start to Kerrobert Pool season as an ongoing issue has created awareness and a need for residents to become involved in existing pool and potential new pool possibilities.

KERROBERT — A recent social media post put out by Town of Kerrobert Culture and Recreation described the stark reality of Kerrobert Pool.

The post started off with “In conversations with our contractors the news is not good for either boiler yet."

Parts arrived for both this past week after three weeks in transit. The wrong parts were sent for the big pool and the paddling pool problem was misdiagnosed. New parts have already been ordered.”

“Our staff share your frustration and disappointment,” Recreation Director Bobbi Hebron says.

“These boilers were purchased new in 2018. We were told that last year’s problem at the paddling pool was a supply issue and the correct part eventually arrived. There were no problems in the fall of 2022.”

The Kerrobert Recreation Board and town council will now be reviewing what the next step should be with this valuable summer recreation venue.

“In the meantime, daily pool temperatures remain close to lake temperature. Hot days, the water warms up more. [Temperatures] can range anywhere from 67 to 73 degrees. The Public Health Inspector tells us it is safe to be open to the public.”

Hebron notes that kids visiting the pool still enjoy the water, with up to 90 people visiting in one day and certainly the free swim and Twoonie Tuesdays are the busiest.

Because swimming lessons always include deck time to learn about water safety, parents can be assured kids are not required to stay in the pool the entire session. However, the recreation department will allow rescheduling if that is a desired option, as well as lesson refunds will be offered. Discounted season passes can also be discussed by calling the town office.

“Further discussions about the future of our over 50-year pool must begin soon,” Hebron says.

“Previous attempts to start a pool committee have not garnered interest. The rec. board has a pool reserve fund and decisions must be made on how to use it. We hope the community will weigh in on this important topic by getting involved and calling the rec. office at 834-2344 to get a new committee started.”

Hebron says this social media post garnered a lot of interest and they already have a committee who want to meet. Information is being put together for them and it will be passed on to residents in the near future.
