Mayor Sharon Del Frari says paying off loan for First Avenue project is a priority.

UNITY — Spring is here.

The town has decided to suspend the Adopt-a-Block program for this year. It had been initiated during COVID. Overall, our community is exceptionally clean.

Residents can expect to see contractors back in April to complete the work on First Avenue.

Negotiations and an agreement have been settled with staff which will carry through to December 2026. We appreciate them for all they do year-round.

Budget has been at the forefront of council discussions. Management has plans to upkeep our town's assets to keep them viable including road surfacing, arena mechanics and swimming pool liner, just to name a few. These ongoing jobs save us from major problems that could potentially come up in the future.

The office staff have been bringing in a new online portal where you will be able to access your account. They will keep our office equipment up to date by working with the software. Every job done in the Town of Unity has a "paper trail," which is prepared by staff then scrutinized by council and auditors. We take our commitment to you seriously.

The First Avenue project currently has a loan attached to it. Paying the loan off will be the main focus of the next few years of budgeting. With this loan and the unforeseen cost of the curling rink roof, we won't be able to plan for any major projects for a while. We have set priorities for the future, the first to bring the sewer treatment plant back online, then to upgrade all the water lines to the wells and the line to town. We would also like to have well No. 4 connected to the system.

Besides these projects, the Downtown Medical Clinic needs a major improvement. We want to do a complete overhaul of the clinic and the town office, giving the doctors more room to work. We have a lot to look forward to in the future. We'll plan a town meeting for the fall to discuss budget and other issues with you in person.

We hope you had a beautiful Easter. The pussy willows and crocuses should be showing up in the next week or so, enjoy.
